ZERO OLDTOWN EMISSIONS

A LAGOON
OF ENERGY

Since 2021, one of AGNES’ goals has been to make the city of Venice and its lagoon, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, completely green by 2026 through the ZOE (Zero Oldtown Emissions) project.
A part of this project has been designed on the Island of Tresse, located in the Venetian Lagoon, north of the Adriatic Sea, along the central-northern and southern coasts of the Veneto region. This artificial island, covering about 120 hectares, is situated in front of the Port of Marghera (one of the largest coastal industrial areas in Europe) and is intended for the disposal of dredging materials and industrial waste from the port, contributing to the expansion and elevation of the island’s surface.

An investment of around 90 million euros is planned to build a 143 MWp ground-mounted photovoltaic plant, capable of producing approximately 165 GWh of net energy per year, enough to power more than 55,000 households. In addition, part of the energy will be allocated to the production of 1,100 tons of green hydrogen, which can be used for mobility and logistics in the lagoon, through the installation of hydrogen refueling stations. This hydrogen production could also be used for the mobility of buses in Mestre and ferries in Venice.

For hydrogen production, we have established an agreement with Sapio, an Italian leader in the commercialization and production of technical gases.
